New Starters

We are delighted that your child will be joining Bishop’s Tachbrook Primary School this coming September. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to our school.

Starting school

Our Reception class intake is always staggered and part-time for the first part of term. We strongly believe that through the staggered intake process, children become familiar with their new setting, new adults and new peers in a small group situation. Although most children will have had experience of attending pre-school, the expectations, environment and adult ratios are very different in school and can often be daunting. We aim for children to feel comfortable and secure in their new environments as quickly as possible and the staggered intake gives everyone the best opportunity to do this.

Week beginning Monday 2nd September 2024:

During this week we will start with introducing children in small groups to life in school and at the end of the week build up to a half a class by combining the smaller groups. You should have already been given a letter informing you of your child’s start date and group.

Getting ready for school

Lots of parents want to know how to get their child school-ready. However, it is important to remember that every child is unique and may learn at a different pace. The most important activities to ensure a child is school-ready is to promote independence, build confidence and encourage them to have an inquisitive mind. Asking questions and engaging in conversations develops their communication and language and will help children be ready to learn.

If your child can dress independently, put their own shoes on, manage toileting independently and recognise their name we will be very happy, because this will save a lot of time (and frustration for the children).

Below you will find some photos of the classroom environment to give you a sneaky peek of how our room changes.

When our room is ready for September, new photos will be posted on our class page so children can see how it will look when they come on their first day.
